Consistency
Consistency is the act of regularly putting in the work at whatever you are trying to become. Both maintenance, and self-improvement. Consistency is the ability
The practice of consistency teaches us Discipline, as well as a Long-Term Mindset.
Consistency and the Ability To Endure
Consistency is directly related to the Ability To Endure. Endurance in this context, is the ability to whether the storm mentally and emotionally without breaking focus. The inevitable adversity creates friction, and is hard.
In this way, the practice of consistency itself builds several mental qualities and emotional qualities.
Consistency Is Law
At the highest level of this practice, Consistency is Law (in fundamental areas of our life). There is a required degree of consistency in our regimen.
There are elements of our Daily Practice and Daily Schedule that should be maintained every day (training program, morning ritual, diet, evening ritual, et cetera). However, we don’t have to lift heavy every day, or run every day, or engineer every day, code every day, write every day, or hunt every day in order to be professionals in those fields.
Consistency Does Not Have To Mean ‘Every Day’ ‘Everything Every Day’
One of the fundamental features of consistency is its integration with a long-term mindset. Consistency accumulates over time, so you can say that the Practice of Consistency (the way that we actually work on consistency in our lives within Personal Development) can be cultivated by focusing on consistency in our daily habits.
It took me many years to recognize that consistency is not everything, every day. When you are driven to become something, for many the intense drive to develop, progress, and succeed in what you are trying to accomplish is so great, that taking any days off is almost unimaginable. In a very real sense, every day off means you are not growing.
At least, that is how it feels (even though it is not exactly true). In order to Do High-Quality work, we often need to take a step back in our lives. Not just to gain perspective, think, plan, and prepare for this next step — or next leap — that we are about to take, but also literally to rest. If possible, to do all these things before something important, is beneficial.
