Isin-Larsa Period (c.2060 – 1818 BCE)
The Isin-Larsa Period (c2060–1818 BCE) begins with the end of the Akkadian Period (during which the Akkadian rulers from Sargon to Naram-Sin ruled their Mesopotamian empire).
The Isin-Larsa Period comes to an end with the true rise of Babylon, and the beginning of the Old Babylonian Period. King Hammurabi of Babylon, and the empire around it, marks the end of this period.
The End of the Isin-Larsa
The god Marduk was the chief god of the Babylonians, and the leader of their pantheon. When the Babylonians rose to power during the Isin-Larsa, the power of Marduk grew too (figuratively).
At last, with the reign of King Hammurabi, the Babylonian Empire emerges. Marduk begins to take the role in Sumerian Myth and Legend that was once held by God’s like Enki, Enlil, and Anu.
