(Full Article: Poseidon, King Minos, and the Minotaur)

In ancient times, when King Minos ruled Crete, his vast wealth came from the trading empire of his people that connected the eastern Mediterranean, he desired confirmation that he was the true king. [1]

He prayed to the gods, and Poseidon answered (who would have been Poteidan to the Minoans) for a sign.

Poseidon heard.

A great bull was sent by Poseidon to the shores of Crete. Though King Minos was supposed to sacrifice it to the God, he chose to keep it for himself, so Poseidon cursed King Minos’ wife so that she fell in love with the Cretan Bull, and bore its child: the Minotaur.

This is the origin story of the famous Minotaur trapped in the Labyrinth.
