Origin of the Vedic Gods

According to one passage of the Hindu scriptures, all of the gods, goddesses, and demons are related to one another, sharing a common ancestor.

“The Gods and goddesses and the demons are both children of Prajapati, yet they fought among themselves.” — 1.2.1 Chandogya Upanishad

Although the exact nature and character of Prajapati is rather amorphous, he is one of the most ancient figures of the earliest layers of Vedic Religion (which eventually developed into Hinduism).

More importantly, according to this passage from the Chandogaya Upanishad, the Vedic gods form a great clan, sharing a common ancestor, and ultimately, homeland.
