The first step is to gain control of the fundamentals of your life. While all in the list given above are important, and under ideal conditions can be bent towards passions and purpose, the reality is that we can actually organize these into a hierarchy.

Diet, Nutrition, Fitness and Sleep

In the case of pure survival, this is the essence of what we have to mastery. We need water, food, and shelter — in that order. Fitness is also on that list, because stronger and fitter (especially in cardio, flexibility, power, speed, and strength roughly in that order) is important for survival.

The Purpose Of This Stage

The purpose of this stage of Personal Mastery is the literal fundamental step of mastery in all of the main areas of our lives. To entirely mastery diet, nutrition, fitness, career, passions — any of the fundamentals — will take years. However, the Fundamental Step of Mastery is to take that first step, and create that first shift.
