At the ancient city of Alalah (in a region of modern Turkey) a clay tablet bearing detailed record of the purchase of a large number of wooden tables, chairs, and stools was discovered. [1]

On the one hand, this document is an accounting document. Whether it belongs to the buyer or seller (I do not know) it does give us insight into the nature of commerce and accounting of the time.

This record of purchase found on a clay tablet inscribed with cuneiform could have been used in other accounting documents. A tablet that contained a budget for each month (quarter, or some interval) could have used this receipt to calculate total expenditures. It could have
