The Origins of the Ancient Greek People

The Origins of the Ancient Greek People are an interesting — and important — story because it has a significant impact on our understanding of Ancient History. In particular, the ancient and prehistoric ties between the cultures of Europe, the Near East, and beyond.

First of all, the Ancient Greeks are an Indo-European people. More specifically, the Ancient Greek language is an Indo-European Language. Already this gives us some insight into ancient events in prehistory that effect the historical Greek peoples.

It is also known that the first Helladic cultures of Greece — those who could work metals, indicating a higher level of human civilization — immigrated from the Near East and Anatolia. [1] (Indeed, the Greeks had a deep, ancient connection to Anatolia.)
