Types of Language Learning — Passive and Active
The way I see it, there are three Types of Language Learning:
- The Passive Aspect of Language Learning — this is the way that native speakers generally develop their language skills. By reading. Increasing their vocabulary naturally, while they learn about things. And …
- The Active Aspect of Language Learning — which is defined by the use of the language in an active way. Such as writing, journaling, speaking. Anything where you are expressing the language. I would also potentially add a third type
- The Hybrid Aspect of Language Learning — which I consider as the border (or crossover) between active and passive. Studying the language (practicing, repeating, and memorizing sentences, translating a text, or creating and studying flashcards) is a hybrid activity. It is not watching the sport, nor playing the sport, but practicing the sport, in prearranged scenarios. Not the same as the real thing.
Types of Language Study
I believe that there are Three Types of Language Study — Passive Language Study, Active Language Learning, and Hybrid Language Learning — because this fundamental division parallels to every aspect of learning itself.
